Smoke-Fired Ceramics

Each smoke-fired piece is completely unique, shaped not only by the maker but also by the unpredictable beauty of fire and nature.

Smoke firing is one of the oldest ceramic firing techniques, dating back thousands of years. Rather than being fired in a conventional kiln, each vessel is fired in a metal barrel or pit, surrounded by natural combustible materials such as wood, sawdust, straw, leaves and other organic matter. As these materials burn, their smoke is absorbed into the surface of the clay, creating distinctive organic markings that can never be replicated.

The beauty of smoke firing lies in its spontaneity. Every piece is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between the artist, fire and nature, celebrating the timeless connection between clay, the elements and this ancient craft.
