3 - Day Intermediate, Maria De Haan 3 - 5 June / 23 - 25 Sep

€900.00

This three-day intermediate workshop is designed for potters who have completed beginner courses and are ready to strengthen core throwing skills, build confidence on the wheel, and take a clear next step forward.

Less intensive than my four-day intermediate course, this workshop focuses on consolidating fundamentals: throwing with more height, improving control and consistency, working with both open and closed forms, and beginning to recognise individual preferences and emerging style.

Across the three days, the emphasis is on practical skill-building through focused demonstrations, repetition, and supported making.

This is a short, focused, and productive workshop for intermediate potters who want to move beyond the basics, throw with greater assurance, and develop a more intentional approach to making.

About the Instructor

Maria De Haan is a ceramic artist with over two decades of experience working with clay, recognised for her vessel forms and her sensitivity to proportion, curve, and surface. Her practice centres on wheel-thrown ceramics, with a strong emphasis on scale, balance, and visual clarity.

Having trained and worked internationally, Maria has developed a distinctive approach to large-scale throwing rooted in experience and observation. Her work draws inspiration from natural forms and organic movement, resulting in vessels known for their presence and coherence.

As a teacher, Maria works primarily with intermediate and advanced students, offering a focused and supportive learning environment. Her workshops encourage participants to develop their work more deeply, make clear visual decisions, and gain confidence working at a larger scale.

In her intensive workshops, Maria shares the thinking and processes that underpin her own studio practice, guiding students through building height, shaping vessels, trimming, and developing open forms.

This course is for you if you:

  • Have completed beginner throwing courses

  • Can centre clay but want to improve height, scale, and control

  • Want to develop consistency across forms

Day 1, concentrates on pulling up and achieving height, working with taller forms to improve control, strength, and confidence in the clay.

Day 2, revisits these forms in the morning to reinforce learning, before shifting in the afternoon to open forms, with a particular focus on bowls, proportion, and profile.

Day 3, is dedicated to trimming, refining, and resolving work, alongside time for individual guidance, troubleshooting, and addressing specific questions or challenges.
