4-Day Moon Jar Making Workshop . 15 - 18 Sep Roz Wallis

€1,000.00

This immersive 4-day moon jar workshop is dedicated to the making of large, two-part thrown forms. Moon jars demand patience, sensitivity and precision; this course focuses on control, proportion and quiet refinement, rather than speed or production.

The workshop begins by revisiting core throwing technique and addressing the specific challenges of working at scale. Participants then move into throwing larger forms and matched sections, developing confidence and consistency before trimming and joining. The structure of the course allows each participant to work at their own pace, enabling them to plan towards and achieve the forms they intend, with close individual guidance throughout.

The final day introduces slip decoration, exploring subtle, responsive surface treatments that enhance form without overpowering it. Teaching takes place in a calm, focused studio, supporting sustained attention and thoughtful making.

This course is suited to potters who already throw confidently and want to deepen their understanding of scale, balance and intentional form.

About the instructor — Roz Wallis

Roz is a ceramic artist, teacher, and founder of Chiswickpots, established in 2014. What began as a personal practice has grown organically into a thriving working studio and pottery school, located in the leafy riverside setting in Chiswick, West London.

Alongside her own studio practice, Roz runs the pottery department at Chiswick Art School. She teaches wheel-throwing to all levels, as well as hand-building and a range of specialist ceramic workshops, with an emphasis on material understanding and confident making.

Over the years, Roz has developed a particular specialism in Raku and alternative, glaze-less firing methods. Her own work often focuses on larger thrown forms, drawing inspiration from the quiet strength of Hans Coper’s silhouettes, combined with a colour palette influenced by the Mediterranean landscape and sea.
