Intuitive Vessel: Ancient Coiling & Mindful Making
 3-Day Hand-Building- Isabella Gorny 7 - 9 April

€780.00

Workshop Overview

Learn the ancient art of hand-building large ceramic vessels through coiling — one of humanity’s oldest clay techniques. This immersive workshop blends traditional craft with mindful presence, inviting you to slow down, connect with your hands, and create a substantial piece that carries your unique energy.

Open to all levels, though some clay experience is welcomed.

About Your Teacher

Isabella is a visual artist and sculptor working with clay. Her work explores the connection to Self through a poetic, contemplative lens. She interweaves memories, mythology, and poetry with her personal story. Creating is her meditation practice, connecting her to earth and the legacy of humankind. Working with the four elements, she creates bold, organic forms—raw and refined, strong and sensitive. Her pieces invite you to pause, breathe, and cultivate (self-)compassion.

What You'll Create

Build a large vessel (30–50cm) using only your hands and the coiling method.

Whether you envision a moon jar’s gentle curves, an amphora’s classical elegance, a functional jug, or an organic sculptural form—you’ll leave with a substantial piece that reflects your creative vision.

Workshop Journey

Day 1: Foundation & Intention

We begin with a brief grounding practice: gentle breathwork and somatic movement to bring you into presence with the clay, your body, and the creative process. [Optional]

I’ll demonstrate the coiling technique step-by-step, discussing what makes vessels structurally sound and how to plan your piece. Together we’ll sketch your vision. Then, you begin building the base and lower walls, establishing the foundation of your vessel.

The piece rests overnight, gaining strength for the next day’s work.

The workshop includes a communal lunch in Deià, where you'll connect with Isabella and fellow students.

Day 2: Building Upward

With your foundation set, we’ll coil our way upward, shaping the vessel's body and defining its character. You’ll learn to read the clay and find your own rhythm, maintaining structural integrity while embracing beautiful irregularities.

We’ll prepare handles or sculptural elements if your design calls for them.

Day 3: Finishing & Refinement

We’ll attach handles, refine surfaces, and add texture or smoothness according to your vision. You’ll learn finishing techniques that honor the hand-made quality of your piece.

The Approach

This workshop celebrates the honest, imperfect beauty of hand-building. We embrace irregularities, asymmetry, and the marks your hands leave in the clay. The coiling method is intuitive and meditative—each coil is a breath, each layer a small meditation. You’ll leave not just with technical skills, but with a deeper connection to making with your hands.

Open to all levels, though some clay experience is welcomed.
